This is the homepage of Xtaldb, an expert system for biomacromolecular crystallography, under development in the Minor lab at the University of Virginia. Xtaldb allows researchers to generate crystallization experiments, using both commercial screens and custom optimizations, with a simple spreadsheet-style interface. It tracks plates with annotations and crystal images in a central database and provides tools for generating reports and mining and statistical analysis of the collected data. It interfaces with various kinds of equipment, including digital cameras, barcode scanners, touchscreen monitors, and can be used in both manual (stereo microscope) and automatic (observation robot) configurations.
You may download a poster on Xtaldb (MS Powerpoint format) that was presented at IUCr Congress XX in Florence, Italy, in August 2005.
Xtaldb is still under development and is not yet ready for public release. However, we are willing to share the prerelease system with collaborators. If you would like to help us test the system, you may email Matthew Zimmerman (mzimmerman@virginia.edu) or Wladek Minor (wladek@iwonka.med.virginia.edu) for more information.
